At Dove Recovery House for Women, our board members play a crucial role in guiding our mission to empower women on their recovery journey. Their dedication, expertise, and passion help shape the programs and services that make a lasting impact in our community. Today, we’re highlighting Clare Clark, one of our incredible new board members to share her perspective on why she chooses to support Dove House and what inspires her commitment to this vital work.
How did you learn about Dover Recovery House?
I learned about Dove House through a current board member, Laura Doughty, who was a coworker of mine at the time.
What made you want to become a board member of Dove Recovery House?
Shortly after my first introduction to Dove House, I joined the marketing and communications committee as a volunteer and began attending the annual luncheons. After nearly three years of serving on the committee, I wanted to become more deeply involved. When I was approached about considering a board member role, I was both excited and interested and was just recently appointed to the board.
What do you hope to achieve during your time as a board member? During my time as a board member, I hope to spread Dove’s mission far and wide. With my background in communications and public relations, I understand how important it is to share what Dove House does with potential donors, clients, and volunteers.
Outside of your work with Dove Recovery House, what are your passions or hobbies?
Traveling and exploring new places is a passion of mine. Locally, I love walking to a coffee shop or restaurant with my husband and our dog, Tito. Adding a new stamp to my passport is always a bonus, as I also love to travel internationally. In my free time, you’ll find me playing pickleball, spending time with friends, or volunteering at Traders Point Christian Church on Sundays.
What do you believe is the greatest challenge faced by the individuals Dove Recovery House serves, and how can the organization continue to address it? The stigma surrounding addiction and the cost of rehab are significant challenges, not only for individuals with substance use disorder but also for their families. Fortunately, Dove House works diligently to address both issues and more through free treatment programs, education, and advocacy.
What motivates you to make a difference in your community? Being a changemaker and leaving things better than I found them.
