Dove House Receives $2.5 Million from Lilly Endowment Inc.

Indy’s largest women’s residential treatment and recovery program named as one of eight human services organizations in Lilly Endowment’s latest round of financial sustainability grant funding.

Dove Recovery House for Women has received a grant totaling $2.5 million from Lilly Endowment Inc. through its latest round of financial sustainability grants. This grant, which is the largest in Dove House history, will be used to support the organization’s long-term sustainability plans, largely through the development of an endowment.

Established in 2000, Dove House serves 40 women each night and more than 80 women annually at no cost to them. In addition to struggling with the challenges of substance use disorder, many women who seek care from Dove House are also escaping homelessness, coping with mental health diagnoses, re-entering society after incarceration and re-establishing parenting responsibility. Dove House residents stay for an average of seven months and receive free housing, meals, treatment and comprehensive wraparound services.

“We could not be more grateful for this life-changing $2.5 million grant from Lilly Endowment,” said Wendy Noe, CEO of Dove House. “Throughout its 22-year history, Dove House has worked diligently to provide the highest quality of care for women seeking treatment for substance use disorder. Establishing an endowment will strengthen the sustainability for Dove House to advance its mission of empowering women to become substance-free, self-sufficient and healthy for years to come.”

This $2.5 million grant to Dove House is one of eight grants from Lilly Endowment totaling $34 million that are designed to help human services organizations that serve residents in central Indiana enhance their long-term impact by building stronger financial futures.

“The grant is designed to help Dove Recovery House for Women build long-term financial strength and resiliency so that it can better weather unexpected and adverse funding changes,” said Ronni Kloth, Lilly Endowment’s vice president for community development. “The grant is not intended to fund ongoing operating support that is essential to meet the day-to-day needs of the people they serve. In fact, we hope the grant helps Dove House attract additional support for this important work.”

This is the sixth group of grants Lilly Endowment has made since 2015 to support the long-term sustainability plans of charitable organizations based in central Indiana. Through this effort, Lilly Endowment has made grants totaling $417 million to 70 organizations.
