Darla Bush has been a longtime advocate for mental health and works each day to make a difference in the lives of others. In addition to her new role as a Resident Advocate at Dove House Dubois County, she’s also a Board Certified Psychiatric Registered Nurse at a Behavior Health Hospital.
And while her degrees and certifications are very impressive, Darla’s focus is simply to help the women at Dove House heal and restore their lives.
As a resident advocate, Darla works closely with residents, checking in on them regularly, providing guidance and assisting however she is needed. When asked what she’s looking forward to most, Darla shared, “Being able to work very closely with women in a personal setting and getting to know them and their story, struggle and success.”
Darla recognizes how critical Dove House is to her local community, and she is excited to help the residents see that they are capable and deserving of a rewarding and fulfilling life in recovery. She also hopes to provide a little humor along the way.
“We are all one step away from being in one of these situations, and we need to understand this and
educate the community on this,” Darla said. “I am a huge advocate for mental health and want to help
make a difference.”
When she’s not busy working two jobs, you can find Darla hanging out with friends and family. She loves
a good road trip, the Golden Girls, llamas and Nelly. You might even say she’s a Nelly super-fan.
“I will be attending my 12th Nelly concert in February, front row, of course. I have met him three times
so far,” she exclaimed.
It’s clear that while Darla has a serious job, she doesn’t take herself too seriously and knows that you
can still make an impact while also having fun. As someone who is constantly doing good to help others,
it’s fitting that her favorite quote is: “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
