Meet Giselle Recker. She recently joined us as the newest resident advocate at our Dubious County home. Giselle previously worked as a waitress and yoga instructor. She has her bachelor’s degree from Murray State University where she majored in political science and minored in legal studies. She also has completed the 200-hour yoga teacher training certification and is currently working on her 300-hour yoga teacher training. Additionally, Giselle has her level 2 reiki certification and will continue to finish reiki masters this coming fall.
As a resident advocate, Giselle’s main focus is to build relationships with the Doves.
“Some haven’t been able to be vulnerable or safe for a long time, we are giving them the space to let their guards down and just be present with them. We are building a family here,” she shared.
In this role, she hopes to help these women love themselves a little more each day and let them know they are not alone in their journey.
Giselle was drawn to this position because of Dove House’s holistic approach which starts with healing within and getting to the root of the trauma that likely caused the addiction. She also loves hearing the Doves’ stories.
“Listening to what some of these women have been through really makes you look at your life and makes you want to be a better person,” Giselle shared. “It’s like a chain reaction of hope. They are so strong they don’t even realize it sometimes; they truly inspire.”
As with most people who walk through the doors of Dove House, Giselle immediately noticed how special it is. She shared, “The first time I walked into the house, you could feel the beautiful healing energy of the women. They want a change, they want to heal and live their lives in a healthy manner. Dove is a safe place for women to rekindle that fire within and reconnect with who they once were before they let addiction rule their lives.”
In her free time, Giselle loves to travel, read, practice yoga, jam out in her car, enjoy nature and spend time with her boyfriend and three fur babies. We know that Giselle is an inspiration to all of our Doves and shared her favorite words of inspiration with us:
“No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path.” – Buddah
