Kate Letterman Conway is joining the Dove House team as the newest resident advocate at the Dubois County home. She is a former high school English teacher and family manager. Kate has her bachelor of science in education from Indiana University and is currently getting her masters of social work degree at University of Kentucky.
Kate is excited to play a small part in empowering women on their journeys to recovery as a resident advocate.
“So many people and their families have been affected by addiction in our community, and my own family is one that has experienced addiction and the power of recovery,” she shared. “I know that Dove House will be an invaluable resource in Dubois County, and I’m so excited to be a part of the team here.”
So far, Kate’s role has consisted of keeping the house organized and on schedule. She also has been getting to know the women, hearing their stories and hopes for the future (which has been her favorite part!).
Kate says, “I hope that I can be a supporter and a motivator for these women as they strive to lead the lives they were meant to live—free of addiction.”
According to Kate, the new Dubious County home is warm and welcoming.
“When you walk in, the hope that’s present at the house is almost tangible,” she said. “I think that sets the tone for anyone who steps foot in the house–whether it’s visitors, volunteers, staff or residents—and it’s clear that everyone here cares for each other and has the highest hopes for these women on their journeys to recovery.”
In her rare free time, Kate loves to read, make music, crochet, hand-letter and try anything crafty! Her favorite quote seems to truly embody what she’s doing here at Dove House. “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” -Saint Mother Teresa
