Creativity has a remarkable ability to heal and transform, and at Dove House, we’ve witnessed its power firsthand. Thanks to our partnership with the Dubois County Community Foundation (DCCF), we’ve had the privilege of bringing art directly to our clients through a generous grant to Traditional Arts Today, a nonprofit based in Ferdinand, IN. This collaboration has opened new doors for Dove House clients, offering them six sessions of art classes and a unique opportunity for artistic expression and healing.
Traditional Arts Today is on a mission to bridge the gap between artisans and their community through art sales and classes in traditional arts. With the support of a generous grant to Traditional Arts Today from DCCF, Dove House has been able to seamlessly integrate enriching art experiences into the lives of the women at Dove House, providing a nurturing environment where they can explore their creativity and connect with their inner selves.
Throughout the program, Dove House residents have explored a diverse range of artistic mediums, including canvas painting, ceramics, woodworking, jewelry making, and driftwood art. From crafting handmade wooden ornaments to creating colorful wrap bracelets, each session has been filled with delight.
“In early recovery, it is crucial to provide structured opportunities for healing through various modalities,” explains Megan Durlauf, Director of Operations at Dove House of Dubois County. “Creating art allows women to keep their hands and minds engaged, reinforcing a sense of self-efficacy and reminding them that recovery can be both fulfilling and enjoyable.”
The group classes, held regularly at Dove House of Dubois County in Jasper, IN, provide a supportive environment where women can explore their creativity, share their experiences, and foster connections with one another on their journey towards healing and recovery. These sessions not only serve as a form of therapy but also as a source of empowerment, helping our clients to rebuild their confidence and reclaim their self-sufficiency.
Dove House is grateful to DCCF and Traditional Arts Today for their support in making this program possible. This program empowers women to embrace their inner artists and discover the joy and healing that creativity can bring.
